Evensong at Ely Cathedral

We had a free Sunday so decided to make good use of the day by attending an Evensong service at Ely Cathedral. We had visited the Cathedral on many occasions but had never been able to attend a service there because of work commitments locally on a Sunday.

It was raining when we left Downham station but by the time we arrived at ely the rain had stopped so we decided to walk through the park on our way to the cathedral. It was very interesting to see the Cathedral from a different angle and the park was peaceful compared to the busy road.

The Eel Hide (not sure where the eels are to be found)

The acoustics in the Cathedral was excellent and we did enjoy all the beautiful singing but I must say I found all the standing and sitting rather difficult to manage so half way through I decided to remain seated. We were sitting in the Choir stalls and that in itself was rather exciting.

Unfortunately cameras were banned during the service so I was not able to get pictures of the youngsters in their choir outfits.

After 50 minutes the service came to an end and we managed to catch our train with 10 minutes to spare.
