12. We have Wheels!

After a long wait we are back on line at the manse and today we caught the train to Ely where we were met by our friend from SA. He took us to his manse where we had lunch with him and his wife and then we were given the keys to the car that they are lending us. They are wanting to sell it so maybe it will eventually become what we cannot do without and then we might even make them an offer. It is quite and old car in that it is a 1998 model. It is a Rover with a Honda engine and it is automatic so is a treat to drive especially while I try to get used to the narrow roads and having to give way to on coming vehicles because the people here park on both sides of the road facing any direction they like. It has electric windows and central locking so is quite grand by our standards. The boot is huge which is just as well as from their manse we went to the Tesco as Ely because it is huge and has a wider range than the one in Downham Market and we bought groceries and a drying rack and managed to get it all into the boot. We did not get lost coming home and even though it was peak hour there were not many cars on the roads. The only time is was a bit scary was at the circles but having automatic drive and power steering it was not too bad. We just thank God for this blessing as it has given us freedom and independence. Tonight Douglas went to choir practice at 19h30 and while he was at the church I went to Sommerfields (just across the road from the church)and wandered around the shop. It was so quiet and empty I could browse without being stressed by others who wanted to get to the shelves where I was looking at all the goodies that are so different from what we see in SA. Tonight I am sure I will sleep well as all the concentration of driving in a strange environment has made me tired and ready for bed.
