Our last day in Scotland

On our last day in Scotland we were taken on a long drive to go up to the highest point in the UK. It was fun going on the little train and even though the weather was cold and wet we did have moments when it cleared and we could enjoy some majestic views. We did so enjoy the hospitality of our friends and had a good time catching up on news as well as being able to discuss South Africa with folk who had spent many years there so understood the culture and environment. We returned to Downham with batteries charged ready for the next adventures.

More of Scotland

Sunday was another cold wet day but we did enjoy the warmth of the fellowship at the service where Hector was the preacher. We went to lunch at a lovely little hotel and had a fantastic meal fit for a king and also had a drive around the area where we could see wind surfers making the most of the strong winds.
I still find it difficult to believe even though I see it with my own eyes but the fact that it can still be light at 22h00 even when overcast remains a mystery. The last picture was taken from our bedroom window at 22h00.

Still in Scotland

The weather was not very good but we did manage a 3 hour trip on Loch Ness. The waves were huge in places but the scenery was lovely and Douglas was fascinated when we went through a lock.

An outing to Nairn

Today we woke to pouring rain. It was quite cold so we decided to stay home and only ventured out after lunch. We drove to the neighbouring town of Nairn where we went to visit a museum where they had a display of toys from yesteryear. It was fascinating to see the details of the toys and how mobile they were. We then went for a drive to the beach where we had some coffee before going for a long walk along the beachfront then driving to the center of the town to have supper at an Indian restaurant there. What a feast that was. We were very interested to see a family arrive with a very young child who had obviously been there before because she knew just what to do with the different foods. We did feel rather stupid as we had had to keep asking our friends for advice and help in our choice of food as it was a Buffet meal and there was a very large selection to choose from. We are now home again and hope that tomorrow the weather will be good so we can take the boat trip on Loch Ness and therefore be able to see the sights along the way.

Off to visit SA friends in Scotland.

Life has been very hectic so we were happy to be able to catch the train and head off to Scotland for a short break. We had bought our tickets ages ago so this was not going to cost and arm and a leg. We had to change trains at Ely and Peterbourgh but were then on a direct line to Inverness. We were just coming into Edinborough when the train stopped and to cut a long story short we ended up being one and a half hours late arriving in Inverness. Apparantly someone had thrown something onto the overhead line and this damaged the power unit so we had to use the back unit and this meant going a different route through Edinborough. This was not a problem and we will now be able to claim back the cost of the journey as we were all given claim forms in order to do so.
The rest of journey was uneventful but we were rather tired by the time we got to our friends home after 22h00. Today it is cold and wet so we have a fire in the lounge and we are sitting around catching up on news and just having a good rest looking at the lovely view from the windows in the sun lounge..

Fun Day in Maram

Today we had the morning service in Maram and after the service went to check out the Fun Day on the village green. We looked over dressed but still enjoyed going "walk about". There was a huge Car Boot sale and various other stalls. The Ice Cream van was there and I even had some Fish from the Fish Van. It was lovely and fresh and very Yummy. Of course I had to buy things at the Car Boot sale so was glad I had my handy back pack with its carrier bag folded away inside and ready to receive my purchases.

More fun at Southery

On Saturday we had our Church Fellowship Breakfast at Southery. We have these breakfasts every month and visit the different chapels in turn. As usual it was a good time of fellowship over the meal and then a prayer time after some singing and meditation. Sharmie our 99 year old loyal participant was there and she kept us all entertained as usual.
