Visiting friends in Soham

On Saturday we had a date with friends in Soham so we all squashed into the car and set off. It was a rather cold day but we were cosy in the car and in no time we arrived and Rachel and Daniel soon made friends and enjoyed playing with Thomas. Daniel has always been very good about sharing his toys and entertaining the visitors. Sue had prepared a wonderful spread for lunch so I was thrilled as it meant we could have left-overs for our evening meal and so I did not have to cook.

Planet Zoom

This morning I took the little Yon family to the train station and they went to Ely to visit "Planet Zoom" a fun play area while Grandpa rested at home and I did some food shopping. Rachel loves the train and the destination also met with her approval so they all came back happy that their little adventure had been a success.

The Yons visit the beach

The family all have colds so we spent yesterday indoors but today the sun was shining even thought it was only 2 degrees outside so it was decided that the Grandpa would have his first venture out by going with the family to the beach. Rachel had slept on the Granny's lap this morning so she would not need an early nap and while they were out the granny could do some housework. The daddy was willing to drive so off they went and from all reports they had a great time.

Snow for the Yons

In the afternoon after it had snowed for quite a while the Yon family took the sledge and went to explore in the snow. They made a snowman and Rachel enjoyed a slide on the sledge. They came home happy, but cold and wet having enjoyed the snow and having made some new friends.

A visit to Norwich

This morning Vera and I taken to Norwich to attend the Centenary Thanksgiving Service for Guiding in Norfolk. We enjoyed the company in the car and then Vera had her first taste of "Park and Ride" as we took the bus into the town centre. We enjoyed the walk through town to the Cathedral where the service was to be held. It was a fantastic service and the on the way back to the bus we passed through the Market where we saw the little Shop that sells South African products. We bought Rachel a Fizz Pop and then took the bus to the car and from there back to Downham Market in time to prepare supper. All in all it was a lovely day out made extra special by the good company we enjoyed.

A visit to the Denver Mill

Today we left the Grandpa at home to rest and the rest of us went for a ride to Denver. We decided to visit the Mill there and were all brave enough to climb up the narrow steps although the Granny and Rachel did not go to the very top floor. We decided that two floors up was enough especially as the blades were turning for the first time in months and the noise was rather loud. It was a beautiful clear day so we could see well into the distance. The man there offered to open the doors so we could venture out onto the balcony but the Granny vetoed that idea.
On the way back to Downham Market we went to see the Denver sluice and the the river and Vera was sure she saw some Guinea Fowls. On the road going back she pointed them out to me and sure enough they did look like genuine Guinea Fowls.

Douglas is making good progress.

After rather a long wait Douglas eventually had his Hernia repair surgery on 12 February 2010. He was finding the pain a bit of a problem especially when singing,so was happy that the date had finally arrived. Vera and Bradley took him to the Day hospital early in the morning while I played with Rachel. We had expected him home that afternoon but because the spinal block had not been effective they had had to do the surgery under general anaesthetic and because of his sleep apnoea they wanted to observe him overnight. He was transferred to the Feltwell ward in the main hospital and because it was a Saturday he was only discharged at 14h30. The surgery itself was successful and although he was in rather a lot of pain for the first few days he was home, he is making good progress and is now feeling much better. Having Vera here has given me a peace of mind and Rachel is so cute when she helps the Grandpa it all helps to make the healing process easier for all concerned. He has received many phone calls and cards and we know that the many prayers that have been offered have been answered and Praise the Lord that He was in control. Today Douglas walked me to the garage because he needed to stretch his legs and get some fresh air. I am sure he will need no rocking tonight as he says he find recuperating very exhausting.
